Find your soul space with astrocartography

Ever felt a strong sense of belonging in a specific location? Maybe from travel, a nostalgic memory, or somewhere else in the world that you felt connected to without knowing why.

Astrocartography is an astrological method to help you to understand your energetic relations to different places over the world, based on your unique birth chart - a map of the sky the day you were born, with placement of all planets, constellations, and astral bodies that all represent your cosmic blueprint.

When combining the birth chart with a world map you have a astro-map, made up of several lines, each line representing planetary energies. The planets are multifaceted and express themselves in different ways depending on the zodiac sign they are, in which house they are in your horoscope, and what angles between the planets.

The 10 planets + Moon’s node and Chiron

Sun - Self-expression
Moon - Emotions, home, family, intuition
Jupiter - Expansion, abundance, joy
Venus - Creativity, beauty, love
Mercury - Communication, learning
Neptune - Dreams, intuition, fantasy
Uranus - Innovation, change, insights
Mars - Power, drive, action
Saturn - Responsibility, structure, discipline
Pluto - Transformation, rebirth
Chiron - The wounded healer, shadow work
North Node - Soul growth, fate

The 4 different angles of each planet

AC (ascendant) - Self, identity
IC (imum coeli) - Home, family, belonging
DC (descendant) - Relations, partnership
MC (medium coeli) - Career, purpose

The MC and the IC represent public and private life and are located at the top and bottom of the birth chart, while the DC is located on the left side of the chart, opposite to the AC. While your rising sign (ascendant) represents your outer personality, the descendant is all about what you seek in relation to others.

We spoke to San Fransisco-based astrologer and writer Rebecca Farrar how to find the best places to work, live, or travel and for more than a decade, she has been deep diving in the astrology world helping clients connect more to their life purpose and their soul.

”There are several astrological techniques for finding the best places to work, live, or travel. Astrocartography is one created in 1973 by Jim Lewis that I use with clients. There are also relocation charts where you can create a chart comparing what shifts in your natal chart when in a different location.”

Feel good places

This depends on your natal chart as could be helpful to know what is happening in your career e.g. In astrocartography the lines stay the same throughout your entire life, but what changes is how different lines may become more important at different times. Let's say you're having a Pluto transit, living or visiting a Pluto line could be a helpful way to move the energy or get momentum. I see most people enjoy Sun, Moon, and Venus lines the most, as these touch personal parts of our natal chart. For traveling or shorter term, often North Node, Uranus, or Jupiter lines feel fun and expansive.

Soulful Business

In general looking for Sun, Saturn, or Moon lines in relationship to the MC/Midheaven lines could be helpful. Or a Mars line for momentum. If your work is more healer based a Chiron or Pluto line could assist you in digging deeper with yourself or clients. Whereas a Neptune line might increase intuitive superpowers.

Soulful Development

My favorite travel lines are North Node, Jupiter, or Uranus locations because these open us and can be fun. Places with Chiron, Pluto, or Neptune locations may feel more like a pilgrimage or offer us an energy more conducive to growth rather than just entertainment.

Soulful Living

The Moon in our natal chart is our sense of home and comfort with needs. Moon lines or places with the sun or moon at the IC (bottom of the chart) may feel more familiar. Venus lines can be places where we feel connected to develop deeper friendships. I'm not sure the perfect place exists for anyone, it is so individual based on our unique soul journeys. But the sense of soul often comes from feeling aligned with ourselves and those lines can be a bit more Sun or Moon.

Besides all this, it is also possible to create a so-called remote activation in the current place you live in.

“Often when we don't live somewhere we are magnetized to people in certain locations. I often have clients on my own Sun lines or Saturn business lines. In some cases, people may be our access point to a location through visiting them or being in communication.“

So, while living in Paris may bring harmonious vibes to one person, it may bring unsettling feelings to another. And even though astrocartgraphy may be a wonderful tool to understand correlations, it’s good to keep in mind that it’s more of a backup of your self-awareness and intuition. Whenever you are at peace, the outer world will be a mirror.
