Organic haircare
Fall is coming closer and we are longing for calm, warming, and nourishing remedies for body, mind, and soul. A healthy hair states our inner well-being, from the diet, lifestyle, and daily care. Here are some go-to remedies for the season.
Before starting using natural products it’s essential to do a cleansing detox, to remove coatings on the scalp and hair. They can take some time to get rid of, due to the silicone that encapsulates the hair. These silicones block the oxygen supply in the scalp, which is essential for the body to be able to produce healthy and strong hair. Rhassoul Clay is a wonderful natural hair detox to start out with. Having patience finding the right products for your hair and letting the transition take its time is key, and will balance in the long run when the hair has recovered to its natural state. A tip is to make a rinse between shampoo and conditioner, or to replace an alternative, and help lower the hair's pH with Hibiscus or to mix water and apple cider vinegar. Brushing the hair and scalp 100 times a day brings gentle massage and awakens the whole body, due to stimulation of the meridians, the energy channels in the body, and stimulating the blood circulation. Use natural materials in the form of pig bristles or wooden sticks.
We had a chat with organic haircare brand BRUNS, 3 times nominated in the Global Green Beauty Awards, on how to step into a more friendly hair care routine.
What plant-based ingredients do you use in your products?
All our ingredients are carefully selected and the fact that they are both biodegradable and harmless to us and our environment is key. Campeche is a plant color extracted from the Campeche tree, also called the bloodwood tree. It neutralizes yellow tones in blonde, gray, and bleached hair and is also strengthening and making the hair feel more healthy. Shea butter, a natural fat extract from the "shea" (Vitellaria) tree nuts is packed with healthy nutrients, and with its softening character, it’s beneficial for all hair and skin types. In the winter season, it nourishes dryness and maintains the natural humidity of the hair. And during the summer season, it protects and moisturizes the hair. The hair follicle is one of the few human organs that follows a cyclic rhythm consisting of a growing phase, a transitional phase, and a resting phase. The incredible capacity, strength, and properties of the extract derived from mung beans and red clover sprouts stimulate the stem cells in the hair follicle and awaken dormant hair follicles. We use this extract in our Grow Series, providing healthier and stronger hair.
What hair rituals can you recommend for the autumn season?
We love timeless products that you can use all year round, and especially after summer when the hair may need some extra boost of nutrition and moisture. If the hair feels porous, products with natural protein are essential. Conditioner spray is ideal when the hair feels dry and static during the autumn and winter months. There are many external factors that affect the hair, so it’s perfect to bring a small conditioner spray in the bag or on the desk, to moisturize and get rid of unwanted fuzz. Another hack is to use a hat or hat lined with silk fabric to prevent broken hairs. And brushing your hair and scalp every day, 100 times.
How do you begin with natural hair care?
Awareness is always the first step. Look what's around you and consider what is friendly and green on the market, and avoid misleading information. Find a Green Certified Salon that can help you along the way. They are not exposed to harmful chemicals and endocrine disruptors in their everyday lives. Simply put, awareness leads to conscious choices.
