How to create a soulful home
The mening of home may vary, but it’s essential to find a place in the world where you feel truly connected. Where to lay down roots and from where you can venture into the world, express yourself, and where your heart belongs.
In Feng Shui for the soul, Denise Linn shares insights about how to create environments filled with harmony, balance and beauty, and highlights four things that our soul requires in a home.
Sense of belonging
It’s essential to find a place and location where you feel truly at home. A place where you can lay down roots, from where you can venture into the world, and where your heart belongs.
Feeling safe
It’s essential to set up a space where you feel truly safe. An anchoring point to lay down roots, and that offers privacy and protection. A place where you can truly be yourself, feeling relaxed.
Harmony with the elements of nature
Our home will connect us with nature, or separate us from nature. This is a wide, ancient knowledge, but the most essential aspects is that it will nourish your senses, allow you to live in harmony with the cycles and rhythms of nature, whether it’s trough the direct land or natural elements integrated in the decor. Simply put, to connect with the natural world, in your home and in whatever way you desire.
Sacred space
A soulful home mirrors the people living there, their dreams and visions, and not one space will look like another. Our sacred space should represent your individual space that can mirror you by enhancing, supporting and uplifting your true essence.
Homes for specific soul lessons
With the four aspects above we may have set up a home space filled with inner peace. This is however, not always logic since our soul can be drawn energetically to places that may be difficult to understand with the conscious mind. You feel called to travel to a specific location, have a longing for a specific place, or other associations that feels familiar to you.
Why? The soul is always longing to expand and grow. This may be the reason why we are subconsciously drawn to environments that can give us what we need in a specific moment in life. The homes we choose often provide what we most need to progress on our souls journey. Some places we will live in with may seem to be out of alignment with our desires or even uncomfortable, but they always offer us an opportunity to grow. Just as we are drawn to individuals and experiences for our highest growth, we may also look for environments that helps us to learn the lessons we need.
Connect with your home space
A simple practice is to visualize how to explore different places, and environments. Imagine touching, sensing, smelling, feeling, and using all the senses to tune in to how you feel in different spaces. Is it the country side, the bustling city, the little village, in the mountains, or by the ocean? What type of house do you sense, and what does it look like on the inside? What materials and textures are being used, how is it decorated? What feeling represents most of your senses? Go through room by room and be specific.
You can also ask yourself, what is home meaning to me? It can vary from a place where you sleep at night, your creative oasis, a place where you grew up, ancestral land, or a place where you don’t spend much time but it lights up your soul. Simply, where do you truly feel at home? When you have clarified what home means to you, you can invite the kind of environment that has this type of energy into it, such as food, music, interior design, and other decorative elements associated with the essence.
